The fountain building was donated by Tiberius Claudius Aristion & his wife between A.D. 102 & 114 in honour of Artemis of Ephesos & Emperor Trajan (A.D. 98-117). The original height of the building reconstructed as an architectural trial is 9.5 m. A two-storey facade surrounded the fountain on three sides, while the statue base of Trajan, with a globe under his feet, stood over the water outlet in the middle.
