The construction of a stone Gothic church was started in 1408. In 1501 it was given to the Dominicans & they built a monastery nearby. Devastated by fires in the 17th & 18th centuries, the church was rebuilt & enlarged, & the Domicicans decorated it anew. The late Baroque style dominates in the architecture of the building. A decorative portal on the southern side opens into a frescoed vestibule, which leads into the church & monastery. The interior is lavishly decorated in the Rococo style, with an elaborately spatial high altar of overpowering exuberance. The 18th century organ is one of the oldest in Lithuania.
