Save lives together

As of 1st January 2012. the emergency corridor is mandatory in the event of congestion on Austria's motorways & dual carriageways of highways. This saves rescue services, the fire service & the police up to four minutes time to reach the site of the accident & thus saves lives in the future.

 

The Emergency Corridor on Two lanes :

On dual-lane motoways & dual carriageways & highways drive as far to the left as possible when in the left-hand lane. When in the right-hand lane drive as far to the right as possible - use the hard shoulder in this process. This applies both for cars & for motorcycles, lorries & buses.

 

The Emergency Corridor on More lanes :

The same system applies for three or multi-lane motorways. All vehicle in the far left lane should drive as far as possible to the left-hand roae side; all other lanes should drive as far as possible to the right-hand road side. The vehicles in the far right lane should also use the hard shoulder in this process.
