리우데자네이루는 브라질 남동부 대서양 연안에 자리한 도시로 리우데자네이루 주의 주도이다. 줄여서 히우라고도 불린다. 포르투갈 왕국과 브라질의 수도이기도 했다. 쇼로, 삼바, 보사노바와 같은 음악이 시작된 곳으로 유명하다. 인구는 약 800만 명이다. 리우데자네이루에서 개최되는 카니발은 브라질에서는 말할 것도 없고 세계적으로 손꼽히는 축제이다

Tijuca National Park (Parque Nacional de la Tijuca)

Indigenous word tijuca means trail leading to the sea. Today's forest is result of reforestation intended to recover main springs that supplied city with water

1874- Col. Gaston d'Escragnolle and French botamist / landscape artist Auguste Francois

      Glaziou adorn area with French-style gardens.

1961 The Rio de Janeiro National Park is created

1967 Renamed as Tijuca National Park. Brazil's only national park located inside a city area is

      one of the largest urban parks in the world (32 square kilometers).

1991 UNESCO declares Tijuca National Park is declared biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

 

Animal and Plant species

Plants : Brazilian rosewood, cinnamon trees, embaubas, jequitibas, cedars,

           ipe and touch me not,

Insects : green cicadas, blue butterflies, owl-butterflies, praying-mantis and grasshoppers

Birds : tanagers, saira, tiriba parrots, maitacas, - hawks, woodpeckers and  black-billed

          toucans.

Mammals : wild cats, bush dogs, tayras, sloths, capuchin monkeys, micos-estrela,

               squirrels and bats

Reptiles : jararaca and jararacucu vipers, cobras-verdes, cobras-cipo and boa constrictors.
