요새 중의 요새로 카르카손 관광의 하이라이트다.

12세기 말에 세워진 콩탈 성은 카르카손을 다스리던 영주가 살던 곳으로 외호와 5개의 탑, 방어용 목조회랑으로 구성되어 있다.

스페인으로부터 영토를 지키기 위해 루이 9세가 5세기에 서고트인들이 세운 시가지 세테에 성을 복원시키기도 하였다.

 

Princess Carcas

Legend has it that Princess Carcas, wife of the Saracen, Balaak, seeing Charlemagne lift the

siege of her town, ordered the bells to be rung. People then cried "Carcas sonne"<Carcas

rings> and this is how the town got its name. This scupture once stood in front of the Porte

Narbonnaise main gate but has now been replaced by a copy.
