스바르티포스(Svartifoss) 안내. 아이슬란드(Iceland)
The hiking trail to Svartifoss being here. The trail to the waterfall is 1.8 km long, with an ascent of about 140 m. Walking to the waterfall should take 35-45 minutes (one way).
Trail to the waterall
Take your time and enjoy the walk. There is plenty to see on the way. e.g. Eystragil, Hundafoss, and the old hydroelectric generator at Magnúsarfoss.
Trails from the waterfall
From Svartifoss you could take the western route out of the gully Bæjargil - this is ideal if you want to walk to Sjónarsker and visit the old farm at Sel. This walk is classed as "easy" and you should allow 2-2.5 hours (round trip)
Alternatevely, you could walk east from Svartifoss, over the heath to Sjónarnípa where there is an exellent view across Skaftafellsjökull glacier to the nearest mountains. From Sjónarnípa you walk along Austurbrekkur to Skaftafell Visitor Centre. This walk is classed as "challenging" and you should allow 2.5-3 hours (round trip)
Advice to hikers
● Take care - there is loose gravel on many paths and any surface can be slippery in rain or frost
● Stay on the path and avoid trampling on fragile vegetation and geological features.
● It is forbidden to remove stones and plants, or to build cairns.
● Avoid disturbing sensitivewildlife and keep pets on a lead at all times.
● Do not throw away paper or any other rubbish - take it with you and dispose of it in a refuse bin. There are recycling bins for refuse at Skaftafell Visitor Centre.
Svartifoss is a waterfall in the south of Iceland in Skaftafell/Vatnajökull National Park, a popular touristic site to visit. Svartifoss means black falls because the waterfall is surrounded by dark lava columns. The hexagonal basalt columns were created when lava cooled very slowly so that the molten rock could crystallize. These columns have Icelandic architects like Guðjón Samúelsson, inspired by their designs. This can be seen in the design of the National Theatre building, the Hallgrímskirkja church in Reykjavik and the striking church in Akureyri.
The hiking trails in the park are well signed. Walking to the Svartifoss takes about 60-90 min walk (2 kilometers). The trail is easy and leads slightly uphill. At the Visitor centre in Skaftafell, which is open all year round, one can get information on how to get to Svartifoss waterfall.
After walking 250 meters from the visitor centre through the campsite take you slightly upwards into the mountain heath in Skaftafell (elevation is 140 meters in 1.5 kilometers). From that point the path will take you down into the ravine below the waterfall). After enjoying the waterfall and its surroundings you should walk up the basalt column steps on the other side of the ravine and follow that path all the way down to the campsite via Lambhagi. When visibility is good It is recommended to do a little extra loop to the viewpoint at Sjónarnípa on the way down.
There are several other waterfalls in Skaftafell. From the second parking: Þjófafoss, Heygotufoss, Hundafoss, Magnusarfoss and Svartifoss. Be sure don’t to focus only on Svartifoss because these are really worthwhile a visit. I missed most of them heading to Svartifoss, a shame.
