The Legend of Antwerp

According to legend, for a ling time, the city of antwerp was plagued by a giant. If anyone refused to pay, antigoon would cut of their hand and throw it into the river. One day, the Roman legionnaire silvius bravo fought back and cut of antigoon's hand, which he then also threw into the river. Antigoon's cruel custom of 'Hand throwing'('Hand werpen') is said to be the origin of the name of the city of Antwerp.

The hand as a symbol for antwerp can be found at various places in the city. It not only refers to the legent, but also the rich history of (Hand) craftsmanship of the city.
