수도원을 외벽처럼 둘러싸고 있는 4층 높이의 건물 한쪽의 1층에는 역사 박물관이 있다.

이곳에는 4,100여 점의 서류와 필사본 그리고 기도문, 이콘(Icon) 등의 수집품들이 전시되어 있는데 1790년에서 1802년까지 12년에 걸쳐 제작된 라파일의 십자가(Rafail's Cross)가 볼 만하다. 크기 81x43cm의 이 십자가에는 140여 개의 성서 장면들이 양면에 새겨져 있고, 등장인물만 무려 1,500여 명이 된다고 한다. 이 십자가를 제작했던 라파일 수도사는 12년 동안 십자가를 만든 후 눈이 멀었다고 한다. 이외에도 릴라 십자가 등이 전시되어 있다.

In 1961 the monastery was announced for A National museum “The Rila Monastery”, in 1976 – for National Historical Reserve and since 1983 it has been part from the World Heritage Center of UNESCO. In the Rila Monastery are keeped manuscripts, old-printed books, documents from 14-19 centuries and the museum stores lots of old objects – icons, weapons, coins, scepters, ect.

The museum of the Rila Monastery is particularly famous for housing Rafail's Cross, a wooden cross made from a whole piece of wood (81×43 cm). It was whittled down by a monk named Rafail using fine burins and magnifying lenses to recreate 104 religious scenes and 650 miniature figures. Work on this piece of art lasted not less than 12 years before it was completed in 1802, when the monk lost his sight.

The Rila monastery is part of The Hundred National Tourist Places of BTS. It is opened for visits from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. The seal is in the museum.
