계시록 동굴

UNESCO. 세계문화유산

길이가 10미터도 되지 않는 이 동굴은 요한이 계시를 받았다는 동굴로 유명하다.

입구에는 작은 교회당이 있으며 동굴 입구에는 요한이 계시내용을 말하고 있고 제자가 받아적는 모양의 유명한 성화가 그려져 있다. 또한 계시를 받았을 때 세 갈래로 나뉘어졌다는 바위와 요한이 엎드려 기도하다 일어날때 손으로 짚어 파인 자국이 남아있다는 바위도 볼 수가 있다. 기독교에서 신성시되는 요한복음과 요한 계시록을 완성하였던 곳이며 현재까지 정통적 그리스 정교회의 순례가 이어지는 곳이다
