구시가지에 솟아 있는 이 성은 도시 어디에서도 잘 보이며 그 웅장함으로 에딘버러 성은 에딘버러의 상징이라 해도 과언이 아니다. 7세기에 세워진 에딘버러 성은 현무암과 사암으로 만들어 진 성이 도시의 분위기를 다소 어둡게 만든다는 평도 있지만, 묵묵히 역사의 흐름을 지켜본 성의 느낌을 살려주기도 한다. 이 성에서 가장 오래된 성 마가렛 예배당과 스코틀랜드 왕가의 왕관과 칼, 유물울 전시하는 크라운 룸, 무기박물관 등이 있다.또 성 마가렛 예배당 뒤에 있는 대포 '몬스맥'도 에딘버러 성의 명물이다. 매년 8월 성 앞 야외무대에서 열리는 밀리터리 타투 퍼레이드는 에딘버러의 유명세를 더해주고 있다.
