What links the Chillon Castle to Villeneuve ?

Chillon was occupied during the Bronze Age, but the Chillon Castle was first mentioned historically in 1150, as it belonged to the Savoy family who occupied this region. In the 13th century, the Savoys occupied most of the territory of the Pays de Vaud. Count Thomas 1st(House of Savoy) and his four sons carried  out gradual but extensive reconstruction and transformation work in this Chillon area. The area surrounding the small town and the toll gate near the Chillon Castle was growing too narrow; Thomas 1st decided that the only way to allow for expansion was to build a brand new town, "the New Town of Chillon" (la Villeneuve de Chillon).
