Ölfusá river
Ölfusá river is a rather short river, about 22 km (14 miles) long. The river is created some 6 km (4 miles) north of Selfoss, where the Sogið & Hvítá rivers come together, and runs into the Atlantic ocean at the Ölfusá river mouth, at Skipamelur. Sogið is a spring-fed river coming from Lake Thingvallavatn, and Hvítá is a glacial river originating from the Langjökull glacier in Iceland's highland. The waterfall Gullfoss is in Hvítá. Ölfusá is the most voluminous river in Iceland. The average flow is 384 cubic metres (13,560 cubic feet) per second. The greatest measured flow was 1,755 cubic metres (16,970 cubic feet) pr. sec. on February 9 in 1960. The lowest level was 97 cubic metres (3426 cubic feet) pr. sec. on April 5 in 1996. Three large floods, indicated by the lines, occured in the 20th century. The floods occur during winter time with heavy rains and high temperatures melting snow.
1968: 15.31 m (50.2 feet) o.s.l
1948: 15.23 m (50 feet) o.s.l
The levels are in metres (feet in parenthesis) over sea level (o.s.l) The inclination of the land is only one metre per kilometre from here down to the sea shore (5.3 feet per mile)
193.: 15.00 m (49.2 feet) o.s.l

셀포스(Selfoss)에서는 Ölfusá river의 바위위에 Christmas tree를 올려놓는 전통이 있다 합니다.
