Panehsy
19th Dynasty, about 1270 BC
Probably from Thebes or Abydos
Panehsy, an overseer of the treasury, wears robes typical of the late 18th and 19th Dynasties. He is kneeling and holds a shrine containing figures of teh gods Horus and Osiris and the goddess Isis, who are named in the inscriptions. The name of Ramesses II is carved on the shoulder and lap of the statue. Panehsy probably donated this statue to a temple to show his devotion to the gods, to gain their protection and to perpetuate his memory.

Statues of individuals
Egyptians had statues made of themselves for tombs or temples. They believed the statues could help ensure their survival in the afterlife. Statues kept the person's name and image alive and magically received offerings of food on their behalf.
